The first step to a successful negotiation is triggering the opportunity for a Hold Up. To do this, all shadows on the field must be knocked down. Use skills that exploit the shadow’s weakness (or get luck with a critical strike) to knock them all down. Once all opponents are knocked down, you’ll be given the opportunity to Talk It Out or All-Out Attack. At this point, highlight the shadow that you are trying to recruit and hit X to begin the negotiation.
Players will then be given three options: Lend me your power, give me some money, and I want an item. Don’t forget that asking a shadow that is higher level than the player to join the party will automatically trigger them to successfully flee.
At this point, the negotiation begins and the shadow will ask the player two questions. Depending on how much it likes the responses it will either like you, feel indifferent, or heavily dislike you. To make sure the shadow likes you, you’ll need in infer its personality type and give answers that are favorable to that type of shadow. Analyze the shadow mid-battle to determine which of the four types you are dealing with. Here’s a breakdown of how to play out your answers:
That’s all there is to it. The hardest part once these match ups are memorized is deciding which answer lines up with each strength or weakness. This is usually pretty obvious, but can be confusing at times.
