How To Get The Root Of The Problem Achievement In Pentiment

To get Wojslav to let Andreas enter the cellar and earn The Root of the Problem achievement in Pentiment, players can either persuade the monk or threaten him. The easiest way to persuade Wojslav is by having the Orator background, but this task is doable even without it.

Choices Route - Ask Wojslav Nicely

Players can have a full blue bar and persuade Wojslav nicely to let them enter the cellar and meet Brother Piero. To do this, Andreas must strongly object to Father Gernot’s decision to detain Piero at the start of the game.

First, choose That’s absurd! When Gernot says he will keep Piero in the cellar. Afterward, claim that Brother Piero wasn’t angry when Lorenz asked Andreas to draw for his commission.

Afterward, if players don’t have the Orator trait, don’t ask for forgiveness from Father Gernot. Then, when the Father told Andreas to stay away from the Abbey for the rest of the day, say that his decision is ridiculous.

Knowledge Route - Threaten Wojslav

Alternatively, players can threaten Wojslav to let Andreas enter the cellar and earn The Root of the Problem achievement in Pentiment. To do this, Andreas must figure out that Wojslav has a special relationship with Sister Matilda.

This knowledge can be obtained by either investigating Matilda’s past with the Baron or dining with the Charcoal Burner in the forest. Many players may miss it, but sharing a meal with Smokey can bring them some juicy gossip, like Ferenc performing a blood ritual, or Wojslav’s relationship with Matilda. Although the monk will not be happy about it, he will allow Andreas to enter the cellar and speak with Brother Piero.

If players are interested in pursuing the lead about Ferenc, then they must first solve Ferenc’s cipher in Pentiment. This will lead Andreas to the grave of Brother Gerhard, and digging the grave will lead to a bunch of ritual items and a knife.

However, Andreas must be careful if he chooses to pursue this route. Digging the grave without permission will cause him to lose the Abbey’s favor in the future, and causing Ferenc to be executed will also come with the same consequences. Because of this, players should only pursue this route if they wish to lose the Abbey’s favor in the next act.

Pentiment is available on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One. It is also available on Xbox Game Pass.
